Palm Island Mayor Alf Lacey has returned to office for a second four year term after gaining more than 200 votes over his nearest rivals in last weekend’s Council elections.

Cr Lacey has made history in the political landscape of Palm as the only Mayor to ever be returned for a second term.

The new Council will be Frank Conway,Roy Prior, Mislam Sam and Edward Walsh Snr. Crs Prior, Sam and Conway were members of Mr Lacey’s team in the lead-up to the elections.

Cr Lacey said he was stunned at the results, much humbled and very grateful. “I’d like to thank the community for putting their trust in me again and I’m looking forward to another four years of hard work towards achieving our vision for our community,” he said. “I’d also like to thank the new Councillors for putting their hands up to do some hard yards for our people here on Palm, and I look foward to working with them all. “Now we can really put our heads down and start working together for the better life and community we all want for our people, our families and most importantly our children.”
